Professor: Daniel Houston

(4.73)

The best aspect of this course was the enthusiastic professor who was relaxed but professional with the students. Many appreciated the genuine concern he showed for their progress. The worst aspects of this course were the lack of practice assignments and the textbook, which was hard to fol ow. The course could be improved if there was more homework or extra supplementary material to help students practice what they learned. Prospective students should know that the course moves at a steady pace, and to be successful, a lot of memorization and personal study time outside of class is necessary.

Fall 2013

Professor: Maren Muel er

(4.5)

The best aspect of this course was the instructor who was described as a patient teacher who structured the course to correspond to how well students were picking up the material. Students thought the course was heavy on homework and bookwork to the point where some felt it was time consuming. Suggestions to improve the class included having the workload varied or slowed down, while other students asked for the ability to place out of the class if they could prove some proficiency with the language. Prospective students should know that the course was fast paced and required a good amount of work outside of the classroom in order to become proficient.

Fall 2013

Professor: Jessica Lamont

(4.43)

The best aspects of this course were the smal class size and the instructor who was helpful to students even if they were struggling. Some students felt the amount of work was high and that the language itself was tough to grasp. Suggestions for improvement included spending more time working on translations and possibly spending more time or going slower on learning the language. Prospective students should realize that learning Latin was difficult and required homework and studying outside of class in order to be successful.

Fall 2014

Professor: Michele Asuni

(4.33)

Students highly rated this course for having interesting material, al owing students to work with artifacts and for its small class size. Additionally, the professor was praised for her engaging and passionate teaching style. The lengthy class session and long readings were noted as negative aspects of the class. Breaking the class into two shorter sessions was a common suggestion for improvement. Prospective students should know there is a lot of reading for the course, but the course didn’t presume students had prior knowledge. This was an enjoyable and interesting course and highly recommended.
