The best aspects of this course included the discussion-based lessons and interesting material. Students also appreciated that the expectations were clear and the material was wel -organized. Some students 73 felt that the text utilized didn’t enhance the material learned in class. Suggestions included fewer readings per day and switching to one topic a week as opposed to two. Prospective students should be prepared for an intense but rewarding class that requires a good deal of reading.

the way it would have originally been transcribed. The assignments were also clear and manageable. Many students felt like the course was rushed and more time should have been spent on grammar. Better structure, more focus on grammar, and weekly quizzes were suggested for improvement of the quality of this course. Prospective students should be strong in Latin grammar.

The best part about this class was the professor’s passion and enthusiasm for the subject. Students appreciated the translation-based approach to class and homework assignments, and enjoyed the readings that were assigned. Some students felt they covered too much material over the course of the semester, and others indicated that the material was difficult given their limited experience with Latin. This class would benefit from the instructor slowing down, spending more time on translations, and working with texts other than the Aeneid. Prospective students should be prepared to have homework every night, and should have a solid grasp on Latin grammar.
