In this seminar we will explore intersections between medicine and technology in Graeco-Roman culture, examining the conception of body and bodily processes in mechanical terms and considering cases of artificial bodies and automata. We will read and discuss both literary and technical texts (both Greek and Latin), including Homer, the Pre-Socratics, Hippocratic authors, Aristotle, Hero of Alexandria, Galen and other medical authors
