Participants in this seminar will read and discuss current research articles in sociophonetics, alongside related subfields of phonetics, sociolinguistics, and laboratory phonology. The seminar will focus on research that provides insights into the nature of variation and change in language, including how it can be predicted, detected, and modeled, and understanding theoretical proposals for linguistic representation that accommodate such patterns.
