Drugs provide a valuable window into the brain. Deciphering the mechanism of action of psychotropic drugs has enriched, and continues to illuminate, our understanding of how the brain works. This course will focus on both classical studies that explain the mechanisms of action of the major classes of psychotropic drugs, such as opiates, hallucinogens, and cannabinoids, as well as on contemporary studies of newly developed drugs, such as ketamine and GLP-1 receptor agonists.
