Professor: PHILOSOPHY

(1.01)

The best aspects of the course included the diverse philosophical papers students were assigned, as well as the overall learning experience. The worst aspects of the course were the philosophical papers that were not so well written and the lack of cohesiveness in class as many students didn’t show interest in the course. The course would improve if the students got feedback on their work and if there was incentive to get students real y engaged in their philosophical papers. Some think the course could benefit more if it were in the form of a workshop. Prospective students should take this course if they are interested in philosophy and want an exciting, yet challenging way to explore philosophical topics of today.

The range of interesting topics covered by the papers students read was the highlight of this course. Additional y, many students appreciated the relaxed and cerebral atmosphere of the course. Some students thought there was little incentive to attend class, and that the expectations for the course overall were unclear. Giving more specific feedback and required attendance were improvements suggested for the class. Prospective students should have a background in philosophy and attend class ready to ask questions and be engaged. This is an enjoyable class and recommended.

Spring 2015

Professor: Kevin Powell

(4.4)

The best aspects of this course included the variety of philosophical topics explored and the manageable workload. Students enjoyed the flexibility of the course and the opportunity to think critically. Many students felt they did not get enough feedback on their work and weren’t able to gage how well they were doing in the course. Suggestions for improvement included scheduling the course for the entire semester, providing feedback after each assignment, and having the opportunity to read more papers. Prospective students should know this class lasts only 6 weeks and it is helpful to have a background in philosophy.
