This course provides an advanced introduction to the philosophical literature on reasons for action. Questions we will address include: What makes it the case that one ought to do something? What is the distinction, if any, between 'moral' reasons and the reasons of 'self-interest'? Must we be motivated to do something in order to have a reason to do it? And how is it possible to act in ways that we think we should not?
