This course is an introduction to the critical philosophy of Immanuel Kant, focused on the first seminal work from his most productive (‘critical’ period), The Critique of Pure Reason. We will look at his criticisms of traditional metaphysics, his account of what drives us to search for metaphysical answers, and his account of how metaphysics could be possible, the nature of space and time, substance and causation, and his account of the metaphysics of human freedom.
