Advanced Molecular and Atomic Physics
3.0
creditsAverage Course Rating
This course will address advanced graduate-level concepts in atomic and--especially--molecular physics, with a focus on the quantum mechanics of diatomic molecules, plus topics of current research interest. The course will be conducted in a seminar format, with occasional lectures mixed in with extensive student presentations of homework problems and solutions, and whole-class discussions. Topics will be modified according to student interests. Topics may include: molecular electronic structure; calculation of molecular matrix elements; laser cooling of molecules; derivation of scaling properties and selection rules for tests of fundamental symmetries with atoms and molecules; ultracold scattering of atoms and molecules; etc.
