This course provides a foundation for understanding frontier research in quantum magnetism. We shall review interesting collective magnetic phenomena in real materials with a focus on topics and materials under active investigation. Pertinent experimental methods and results will be reviewed along with potential applications. Starting from basic theories of magnetic moments and their interactions in insulators and metals, theoretical methods to describe and understand quantum magnetism in a variety of solids will be discussed. Recommended Pre-reqs: Condensed Matter Physics AS.171.621-622
