creditsAverage Course Rating
This course investigates how Europe has responded to recent events, such as mass flows of refugees and asylum-seekers entering the E.U. and recent terror attacks committed by jihadists in European capitals. To understand the policy responses to these events, we will examine the historical context of immigration and Islam in Europe and the different policies which have affected Muslim immigrants, including policies governing integration, religious expression, and security. Do European states really have a “threshold of tolerance” for immigrants, particularly Muslim immigrants, as suggested by both social scientists and politicians? If so, why, and what are the implications for Muslims living in Europe?
