"Research is writing. No one gets a fellowship, a PhD, a postdoc, a job, a grant, or a promotion except by writing, which means that professional researchers are by definition professional writers." - Barbara Sarnecka in The Writing Workshop (https://osf.io/n8pc3/). This course will cover a variety of topics: establishing a writing practice, planning your time, giving and receiving feedback on writing, communicating with others informally about your work, and building resilience in the face of uncertainty and challenges. Class time will consist of time doing actual writing, writing feedback forums, and in-class exercises and discussions. Readings and materials will be geared toward Ph.D. students in the cognitive sciences (e.g. psychology, neuroscience, philosophy, computer science) but may be relevant to graduate students in related fields.
