The best aspects of this course included the instructor’s level of engagement with the students, the opportunity for students to imitate certain authors, and the instructor’s thorough feedback. One student felt that workshops focused too heavily on the technical facets of a piece. Another student felt the instructor was subjective toward particular students. Suggestions included workshopping only half the class per week and requiring students to attend readings throughout the semester. Prospective students should know that the course is writing-intensive and that they wil be expected to write in certain styles/formats.

The instructor of this course was given near unanimous praise for his attention to the students, his knowledge, and his investment in his students’ improvement. While many students were hard pressed to find fault with the course, a few found the meeting time was too short to get through al the poems. Dedicating more time to workshops and less time to discussing readings was a suggested improvement. Prospective students should know this course is rewarding and taught by a dedicated instructor. It is highly recommended.

The best aspects of this class were the fun topics covered and weekly workshops. The supportive, encouraging professor was insightful and helped push students to work outside of their comfort zones. Some students found the weekly poetry assignments chal enging. This course could be improved by changing the workshop schedule. Prospective students should know this course was demanding yet rewarding. Students were required to have seven portfolio poems by the end of the semester.
