The best aspects of the course were the acting exercises, final performances, and class feedback. The professor was funny, insightful, and was always able to provide adequate feedback. The worst aspects of the course were the incessant exercises and ineffective use of class time to do things like re-reading passages. The course would improve if there was more time spent doing scenes and having discussions, instead of doing endless exercises. Prospective students should be prepared to do less scene acting and more listening/talking exercises.

Spring 2014

Professor: John Astin

(3.2)

The best aspects of this course were the scenes acted out by students and the professor’s insightful assistance. Many students enjoyed working with other actors and felt like the actually were working at their craft as opposed to Acting I. However, the syllabus was not followed and the professor was often distracted. Students suggested that this course get new, younger instructors and that the curriculum be updated. A background in acting is highly encouraged for prospective students who are thinking about enrolling in this course.

Spring 2015

Professor: John Astin

(4.15)

The best aspects of this course were the various acting exercises and the opportunity to learn techniques under an expert, professional instructor. The instructor had a tendency to get off topic and students were only al owed to practice the acting method introduced by the instructor. This course could be improved by giving students more opportunities to work on scenes during class and providing students with a clear syllabus outlining the topics that will be covered during the course. Prospective students will have to dedicate a substantial amount of time outside of the classroom to complete assignments. Students interested in acting will find this course enjoyable.
