Students in the course will learn about the development, evolution, measurement, and consequences of crystal texture, with emphasis placed on minerals under extreme conditions relevant to the deep earth and materials experiencing large deformations and plasticity. Topics covered will include a historical overview of relevant developments in mineral physics and plasticity, crystal and continuum anisotropy, and X-ray diffraction techniques for measuring deformation mechanisms and orientation relationships during phase transition.
