This course builds a critical perspective on law and state-formation through intellectual debates and traditions in Latin America. Drawing from texts in legal theory and philosophy, legal anthropology, and ethnography, we will survey different ways law has been imagined in relationship to community, violence, and sovereignty in Latin America.
