In this course, co-taught by the Director and Curator of the Evergreen Museum and a fine art photographer, students are introduced to the history of the Evergreen Museum and Library of Johns Hopkins University. Located within a mansion from the Gilded Age, this former family home is within walking distance of the Homewood campus. The history and inhabitants of Evergreen; including family members and servants, the world-famous library, the art collection, and the grounds, all serve as inspiration for students to produce a portfolio of photographs based on their research and encounters in the museum. The semester will culminate with an exhibition at the Evergreen Museum showcasing student work from the semester. Class periods will be split between the museum and the CVA digital lab. DSLR cameras are available on loan for the semester. Attendance in first class is mandatory.
