The best aspect of the course was the fun class atmosphere in which students were able to learn Chinese. Both professors showed a lot of enthusiasm for the course and were genuinely interested in helping the students master the language. The worst aspects of the course included the heavy workload and the quick pace that the students had to learn and review the information. The course would improve if it went at a slower pace and if there were more activities like field trips to give students more opportunities to practice the language and have conversations in Chinese. Prospective students should endeavor to constantly review the material and stay on top of the seemingly heavy workload to fully enjoy the experience.

Many students who took this course enjoyed the constant conversational aspect and the professors. The professors were described as engaging and exciting and the workload for the course was very balanced. The worst aspects of the course were the quizzes that required knowledge of 25 words each time, the confusing lectures and in some classes there was a heavy workload. Suggestions for improvement include: clearer lectures, a slower pace, and more cumulative practice. Prospective students should be comfortable with memorization and studying each day.

Students enjoyed the professors’ fun, engaging and passionate methods accompanied by a small class size. Students appreciated the constant practice that the daily meetings afforded, as well as the conversational approach to class that facilitated speaking practice. Many students found this course exhausting because of the number of quizzes and assignments. This course could be improved by spending more time on difficult assigned material, and using a wider variety of assignments and media to keep the work interesting. Prospective students should know they will have two vocabulary quizzes a week and a chapter test every other week.
