Spring 2013

Professor: Fadel Abdal ah

(3.79)

The best aspects of this course included the small class size, the kind professor, and the overall classroom atmosphere. The worst aspect of the course was the excessive emphasis on the textbook which prevented students from doing much learning outside of class. Students felt there was not enough speaking and grammar practices to help them actually learn the language. The course would improve if students had more practice assignments and lessons to help reinforce their knowledge of the language. Prospective students should ensure they motivate themselves in the class and outside of class because the language is not an easy one to learn.

Spring 2014

Professor: Fadel Abdal ah

(3.91)

The best aspects of this course were the small class size and the professor’s attitude. Many students agreed that the professor was approachable and nice. He included information about the Arab world and cultures, outside of the language. The worst aspects were the course fast pace and reliance on the textbook instead of classroom conversation. Many students had hoped the small class size would offer more opportunities for conversational practice, and were disappointed that so much learning relied on the textbook. Students suggested a more interactive method of teaching, a slower pace, and adding homework assignments. Prospective students should be familiar with basic Arabic before enrolling.

Spring 2015

Professor: Sana Jafire

(3.45)

The best aspects of the class included the adaptable professor and the emphasis on practical speaking skil s afforded by the Thursday conversations. Students appreciated the small class size that gave each student more opportunities to participate and practice. Many students found the tests to be disheartening even though they had spent a lot of time studying vocabulary component. This class could be improved through restructured exams, more focus on practical language, and a new textbook. Prospective students should know this class will require lots of daily work, and should prepare for a heavy time commitment.
