The best aspect of the course was the fast pace in which students got to learn the Russian language. The professor was amazing and students found her very helpful. The worst aspects of the course were the daily homework assignments and the early morning class period. The course would improve if there was more creativity with the learning and less dependency on the textbooks. Prospective students should be prepared for a fast-paced course with lots of homework and quizzes to help them learn the language quickly.

Students who are looking for a new language to learn with a professor who is very fair and genuine should enrol in this course. Previously enrol ed students thought this course offered a solid Russian language foundation in just one year. The focus of this course seemed to be grammar and vocabulary, and students were quizzed on these components. The DVD segments were seen as useless and the textbook was not organized well enough for students. Some students also said that the professor was unreasonable at times and that attendance was always low. Suggestions for improvement include: a new textbook, more emphasis on speaking and comprehension, and a later class time. Prospective students should know this course requires more work than other introductory language courses.

The best aspects of the course included the thoughtful class material that required constant work and reinforcement. Students praised the professor who was invested in her students’ success for being very helpful, accommodating, and engaging. While some students appreciated the practice afforded by weekly quizzes, tests and frequent homework, others thought that they were a nuisance. Prospective students should know that this class will be a lot of work, but it is an effective way to learn the Russian language.
