Professor: Choonwon Kang

(4.85)

The best aspect of this course was the helpful, kind, and organized professor, whose effective teaching skil s helped students enjoy the learning. The worst aspect of the course was the fast pace the class went, as some students felt the work was at times rushed and hefty. Also students were on different levels in their understanding of the language and wished they had some more practice with speaking and conversing in Korean. The course would improve if there were more class discussions and more class time to cover the material. Prospective students should have a previous background in Korean and should complete all the assignments efficiently to do well in the course.

Spring 2014

Professor: Choonwon Kang

(4.78)

The professor of this course was patient, considerate, timely, and understanding towards her students. She made the course enjoyable and was wil ing to help with any questions. Many students were drawn to the class discussions and positive environment of the classroom. During the course, students focused more on writing and speech than in First Year Korean I . Students expressed their disappointment with the lack of translations in the back of the textbook, and some students did not feel prepared for Second Year Korean II after taking the first course. It was suggested that students be granted the opportunity to practice dialogue with a native speaker to improve the course quality. Prospective students should be aware that this professor will not be returning in the fal and that the course is time consuming, but worth it. 57

Spring 2015

Professor: Jayoung Song

(4.64)

The best part of this class was the homework that real y helped students learn the Korean language. Students praised the professor for keeping students engaged in class, providing a variety of assignments, and making herself available to students outside of class. Some students felt that the classroom environment was disconnected with two very different levels of proficiency in Second Year Korean II, and that non-heritage students struggled. Many students felt that this class would benefit from having two sections—one for heritage and one for non-heritage speakers. Prospective students should know that Professor Song is always willing to help. 54
