This course introduces students to foundational concepts of global security studies, including historical and disciplinary context, theories of international relations, global security actors, and central global security challenges. These issues range from misperception and strategic deterrence to non-state armed groups and global order, with theories drawing on realism and liberalism as well as a variety of social theories.
