Here is the course description: The primacy is the political. It determines all issues of wealth and poverty, security and freedom, and war and peace. Intelligence analysts, in whatever field of endeavor, need to have a sound grasp of the theories and techniques of political analysis. This course combines political theory, social science, history, and psychology elements and will deepen and sharpen students' ability to analyze political systems and change. To do so, the course will delve into ideologies, constitutional design, theories of democratization, elite theory, political parties, and social movements, and issues such as subversion, internal disorder, and the dynamics of revolution. Important case studies of political change in nation-states will be examined in depth. An important feature of the course will be declassified intelligence community’s published analysis in the course reading. Although the course may reference political trends and issues in the U.S., the main focus will be on the international scene and other nation-states.
