Storytelling is key to how we make sense of the world and is an increasingly important tool for communication professionals in crafting impactful messages to audiences. Stories can be used in a wide variety of contexts that include digital media, health care, branding, PR, politics, organizations, social impact, and entertainment. Stories drive action, create empathy, boost persuasion, encourage brand loyalty, and are more memorable than other forms of communication. This course teaches students about the theory, research, narrative structure, creativity, and neuroscience behind good storytelling. Students will also learn diverse storytelling tools and best practices that allow them to become strategic storytellers and leverage stories to help with the communication efforts of a specific issue, organization, brand, or social cause.
