A study of accounting’s role in decision making is an important tool for good fiscal management. This course focuses on understanding the roles of external accounting entities and how they impact the accounting process, and how accounting data are used by management in planning, controlling, and evaluating business initiatives. Topics include GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards); the AICPA (American Institute of CPAs) Conceptual Framework Project and the resulting SFAC (Statements of Financial Accounting Concepts); an introduction to cost accounting; cost-volume-profit analysis; budgeting; and other quantitative applications that aid in management decision making.
