This course will explore emerging legal and public policy issues impacting the Real Estate and development landscape. Students are challenged to apply their knowledge and understanding of Real Estate fundamentals to current, real-world issues. This course introduces students to legal instruments such as zoning, permitting and building codes that are essential to understanding the development process. As climate impacts and sustainability issues drive change, laws and business practices are evolving to meet the need resulting in changes to the way we do business in the Real Estate field. As corporate citizenship evolves using ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) goals, communities are responding in a similar way by addressing important issues such as inclusiveness and affordable housing. Armed with this knowledge, students are prepared to explore emerging issues, develop solutions and report their findings.
