Leadership Immersion Capstone

This course is an intensive seminar and developmental workshop designed to build off the core Leadership and Organizational Behavior (LaOB) course that students took in their first year of the MBA program. While we will introduce new conceptual material to home in on specific leadership skills, especially those critical to new leaders, the main purpose of the course is to help students actively discover and understand their own leadership strengths and weaknesses, as well as to build their capacity for self-development by fostering habits of feedback-seeking, self-assessment, and goal-setting. <br> This course uses an accelerated format such that all synchronous and in-person elements will occur and be completed within one week with asynchronous elements lasting up to two weeks longer. This course uses a unique approach to learning and personal development. Rather than readings and lectures, we will rely primarily on an experiential learning approach in which students are immersed in a variety of exercises (including light physical activities) and excursions, and provided with repeated opportunities for guided reflection, feedback and peer coaching. Students will engage both as leader and follower at various times throughout the course. They will build a deeper conceptual understanding of leadership behaviors and skills, practice and hone their own leadership capacity and develop a plan for their ongoing development after graduation. In addition, the course provides a rare opportunity for second-year students to reconvene as a group, to build or solidify peer relationships that will, we hope, provide a continued connection after graduation.
