Students analyze educational technologies through the lenses of critical theory and critical theory of technology. The course empowers students to critically examine the multifaceted impact of technology on education, while scrutinizing the intersections of power, privilege, and societal structures in the design and deployment of learning technologies. Students deconstruct prevailing narratives surrounding educational technologies to discuss the underlying power dynamics that shape their development and utilization. Drawing from critical theory frameworks, they will investigate the ways in which digital tools mediate educational experiences and contribute to shaping social norms, equity, and access. Students will gain the skills to dissect and challenge assumptions, fostering a nuanced understanding of the ethical, cultural, and political dimensions inherent in technology-infused education.
