Aspects of the research process, including reading and writing mathematics, LaTeX, literature search, problem identification, problem-solving, oral presentations, Beamer, conference attendance, publication of results, and research ethics. An initial research experience, individually and/or in groups, with students identifying and developing projects in discrete mathematics and probability, such as percolation, random graphs, random walks, birthday problems, gambler’s ruin, coupon collector problems, and self-avoiding walks. Instructor's permission required. Open only to undergraduates.
