The best parts of this course were the professor’s teaching style and effective lectures. The negative aspects were the tedious homework assignments, and the unhelpful learning modules. Suggestions for improvement included having a lab and assigning less homework. This course is difficult, but teaches you a lot about steel structures. Students recommended starting assignments early and going to lectures because the professor is willing to help if you have questions.

Students’ praised the effective instructor who could eloquently explain concepts to students. Despite this, some students found the course had a heavy and tedious workload, especially homework. Students suggested adding more structure, since some students found it hard to fol ow the differences in steel design and concrete design. Prospective students should know that the course would help improve students’ design skil s but students had to be neat and organized in order to be successful.

Students praised this course for having an accomplished instructor who taught in a clear and organized way and wanted students to grasp concepts. Perceived issues largely focused on a belief that the course’s assigned exams were unfairly hard. Suggestion to improve the course varied. Some students wished the course would be split into two new courses with one focusing on steel and another focusing on concrete rather than chal enging students to master both in one class. Other students wished the course included weekly quizzes to help make sure students were staying on top of the reading. Prospective students should know that students found the course to be chal enging and time consuming but noted that the instructor was open to offering students help. 81
