In this laboratory course, students develop core technical skills for biochemical, molecular, and cellular experimentation. Modules introduce quantitative analysis of nucleic acids and proteins, enzyme-kinetic assays, bacterial culture techniques, PCR, and strategies for regulating and measuring gene expression using inducible systems. Students also work with publicly available datasets and basic bioinformatics tools to interpret DNA sequences, examine gene structure, and explore simple protein-variant analyses. Together, these experiences establish a practical foundation for understanding the principles and methods used in biochemical and molecular engineering. Required co-req: EN.580.223.
