The course is offered in two parts, each a half semester long (1.5 credits each). EN.580.635 explores diverse applications of bioelectrical measurements and manipulation in modern engineering practice. Topics include functional electrical stimulation, deep brain stimulation, cardiac pacing and defibrillation, tissue ablation and cancer treatment. The second part of the course, EN.580.636, is optional and will consist of a lab project involving the physical manipulation of cells, mentored by the instructors and carried out by the entire class.
