The course is designed for anyone who could be called upon to analyze and/or communicate financial results and/or make effective financial decisions. As accounting is described as a language, this course focuses on the vocabulary and processes by which all financial transactions are captured and encourages students to think in a more creative way when analyzing a firm’s historical performance or when forecasting future financial results. Leaders are exposed to various tools and techniques that enable them to better utilize their resources.

Students enjoyed the professor’s effective teaching style and her approachability. They appreciated how she included examples to help them better understand the material. They did not like the three-hour long lectures and found them hard to fol ow. Some students suggested splitting the lectures into two classes per week instead of one. Students said to make sure to keep up with the material or you will fall behind quickly.

Students praised the instructor’s ability to clearly explain concepts “that are often confusing.” Some students disliked the course’s emphasis on group work as opposed to individual work and individual assignments. Suggestions for improvement changing the schedule to have the class meet twice a week for a shorter period. Prospective students should know that the class didn’t require much background knowledge in order for students to be successful.

Students praised this course for having an engaging teaching style and for covering an interesting topic. Students had few issues with the course. Some students had mixed feelings about the course’s assigned textbook and wondered if certain parts of the assigned reading mattered for the class. There were few suggestions for improvement as well, although some students disliked group work and would have preferred individual projects. Prospective students should know that students found the course didn’t require any background knowledge of financial accounting; however, students felt having a background in the field was helpful in the course.
