Despite treatment, HIV infection remains a chronic disorder affecting multiple organs. Our research is aimed at understanding how osteopontin regulates inflammation and HIV-induced injury in the brain. A combination of in vitro neuro-glial cultures and humanized mice are used to test our hypotheses. Tools used include: primary cell culture, microscopy and image processing and analyses, immunohistochemistry, RNA isolation, qPCR, and phagocytosis assays.
