Provides a broad overview of select tropical medicine and public health issues. Highlights specific tropical diseases and case studies stressing diagnosis, treatment, and implementation of preventive and control measures. Introduces students to clinical tropical medicine and travel medicine. Specific topics include the etiology, biology, epidemiology, and clinical presentation of enteritides, intestinal protozoa and helminths, cysticercosis and hydatid disease, hepatitis, tuberculosis, viral and arboviral infections, malaria, and some STDs. Sessions include practical lab experience in parasitology and diagnosis. Prepares students working with current and emerging health problems in developing countries.
