Introduces students to thinking of key age-related health outcomes from a systems science lens. Examines basic systems model (systems dynamic models, agent-based models, social network models). Addresses the basic concepts of GIS, geo-spatial methods and explores examples of integration of multi-dimensional data (survey, step activity, GPS). Students will work through example models including both communicable and non-communicable disease control programs (e.g., vaccines, medications, and non-pharmaceutical interventions), dietary and physical activity behaviors and interventions, and healthcare systems and healthcare policy.
