Emphasizes the role of epidemiology in cancer prevention and control. Compares and contrasts the descriptive epidemiology, natural history, and pathologic and biologic characteristics of selected common cancers, as well as factors related to their etiology. Introduces resources available for cancer studies. Focuses on the influence of environmental and genetic factors and their interplay on the development of cancer together with the epidemiologic issues involved in their investigation. Provides an overview of problems involved in cancer prevention and screening.
