Facilitates students’ successful transition into our department's doctoral program. Includes a format of semi-structured informal conversations aimed at sharing critical information, building community, and scaffolding learning that will occur over the course of the subsequent terms of the seminar and throughout the rest of the program. Reviews program requirements and school and departmental resources, honing skills students need for success in a doctoral program, fostering a broad understanding of the scientific process particularly as it relates to the design and conduct of dissertation research. Explores research areas that may (hopefully) translate into future dissertation work.
