The Young Children's Program for age 3-6 is designed to spark innate creativity and joy in moving and begin to build a foundation for more in-depth technical training. Students are grouped by age and by readiness to work on basic ballet vocabulary. Introduction to Ballet 1 & 2 is a combined class for 5 and 6 year-olds that accommodates new students and those who have previously taken creative dance and/or pre-ballet classes. The curriculum approaches the fundamentals of ballet (body placement, port de bras, footwork, and simple vocabulary) while continuing to build students' locomotive and expressive skills. Introduction to Ballet 1 & 2 is designed to capitalize on the increasing strength, coordination, and cognitive abilities of 5 and 6 year-old students; therefore, students must be at least 5 years old by the first day of the summer session. (Students who will turn 5 years old during the summer or prior to the upcoming school year should register for Creative Dance 2 for the summer session.) No previous experience or placement class required. Students provide their own dance attire. Visit www.peabody.jhu.edu/dance or contact Peabody Dance for details: peabodydance@jhu.edu or 667-208-6648. Tuition fees are listed for the complete 6-week summer session. Minimum of eight students. Register for two classes per week and save $20! Instead of registering for each Introduction to Ballet class individually, register for the 12-hour Introduction to Ballet package: PP.100.021 12.
