The Open Program classes are designed for students of all ages and abilities who love to dance and want high-quality training with a less intensive schedule. For a detailed description of the Open Program class offerings and levels, visit http://peabody.jhu.edu/preparatory/ways-to-study/departments/dance/training/. The Intermediate contemporary dance class continues the progression of learning classic modern dance principles to develop core strength, flexibility, different movement styles, and creativity. Improvisation and composition are incorporated as well as the ability to learn phrase work quickly. Artistry and the role of the dancer in the rehearsal process are established. Students must have recent concentrated training in contemporary dance or modern dance. New students with prior training are required to take a placement class to determine which level is appropriate before registration. Students provide their own dance attire.
