The Open Program classes are designed for students of all ages and abilities who love to dance and want high-quality training with a less intensive schedule. For a detailed description of the Open Program class offerings and levels, visit http://peabody.jhu.edu/preparatory/ways-to-study/departments/dance/training/. The Elementary ballet class is designed for students who have two or more years of recent ballet training. The class introduces key ballet vocabulary with an increased focus on technique, along with more complex locomotive skills and arm movements. Students do not participate in a year-end performance; studio observation opportunities are offered throughout the year. This class is ideal for students who wish to continue their ballet training past Level 1 or Level 1X, but who prefer to attend class once a week or choose not to perform. New students with prior training are required to take a placement class to determine which level is appropriate before registration. Students provide their own dance attire; visit www.peabody.jhu.edu/dance or contact Peabody Dance for details: peabodydance@jhu.edu or 667-208-6648. Tuition fees are listed for the complete 16-week semester. Monthly payment plan available through Tuition Management Services. All classes require a minimum of eight students; classes with fewer than eight students are subject to cancellation.
Fall 2012
Professor: Toby Ditz
The best part of this course was the professor, who was very organized and gave a fresh perspective on colonial history. Students enjoyed asking questions in the discussion sections and appreciated the flexible assignment schedule, which made it easy to balance the work with other classes. The negative aspects were that sometimes readings were overwhelming, and the course rushed through information quickly. Students suggested giving the discussions more structure to make them more productive. Students should know that the course is discussion-based, so it requires a lot of reading and critical thinking. The course has a manageable workload and is interesting overall.
