Chamber music study develops leadership and interpersonal skills, critical thinking, and challenges students to incorporate soloistic playing in an ensemble setting. For the student who wishes to pursue a career in music, chamber music is an essential component of a complete musical education. For all students, chamber music opens up new possibilities for advancement and enjoyment. This ensemble class is for students in the Wind Band or Wind Orchestra who are interested in learning woodwind repertoire as well as chamber music arranged for wind ensembles. Weekly one-hour classes will focus on ensemble skills, sight-reading, intonation, ensemble repertoire, and technique. Regular attendance is required. Students will be placed in ensemble groups based on their placement audition conducted for acceptance into the Wind Band or Wind Orchestra. New spring semester students must attend placement. Private study at the Preparatory is not a pre-requisite for acceptance. Music will be provided by the instructor. Ensemble groups will perform each semester. Minimum of 4 students.
