There are stories that only performing artists can tell—stories that offer deep insights into the craft and reveal the skills it takes to build a career onstage. In this course, we will focus on storytelling, exploring topics that illuminate how we as performers relate to our repertoire, solve technical problems, find meaning in practice, learn through dialogue with mentors and collaborators, and engage with the creative scenes around us. Our discoveries will take shape through written journal entries, edited interviews, critical responses, feature stories, and think pieces. A central goal of the course will be learning how to adapt our writing for platforms such as e-newsletters and social media, using them as strategic tools for audience engagement.
