Beginning with Goethe’s work, this course focuses on German poems representative of a poet, a period, or a genre, from the 18th century to the present. Special attention will be paid to works set to music by various composers from Mozart to Henze. Texts will be read in the original German (with English translations); discussion will be in English. No prerequisite.
