creditsAverage Course Rating
This graduate seminar discusses the relationship between music and liturgy in the West, through theological, historical, and practical perspectives. Using a series of case studies from the Middle Ages through the liturgical revival of the twentieth century, this course aims to give graduate and upper-level undergraduate students a firm grounding in liturgical forms and musical genres, with an eye to contemporary use. This course may be of special interest to organists, singers, and conductors interested in performing sacred music––in either a liturgical or secular context.
