The solo and chamber music of J.S. Bach reveals both a deep commitment to inherited dance forms and an important transformations of those forms. Through analysis, discussion, and in-class performance students will develop their knowledge both of Baroque dance music as Bach encountered it as well as the composer’s distinctive use of dance idioms in his solo and chamber music.
