This course covers the main economic issues that have taken place in Latin America in recent decades with a special emphasis on current events. Topics include: the economics of populism; debt, banking and currency crises; high inflation and the path towards macroeconomic stability; growth and the political economy of reforms; productive policies and innovation; labor markets and human capital. By the end of the course the student will have acquired familiarity with recent economic events in Latin America and with the main economic challenges that the region faces.
