Russia’s (second) invasion of Ukraine has brought war back to Europe: not Cold War, not civil war (as in the Balkans during the 1990s), not even ‘hybrid’ war (as in Ukraine in 2014) - just all-out conventional war (with ‘hybrid’ elements). While its outcome is still uncertain, its outbreak has surely ended the ‘Thirty-Year Peace’ that the European continent had enjoyed since the dissolution of the Warsaw Pact and the Soviet Union.
