creditsAverage Course Rating
The course aims to provide students with a solid knowledge of international political economy, with a focus on different varieties of capitalism and the role of Europe in the global economic order. The objective is to give students insights into how to think about ongoing substantive debates in the field. We will examine the interaction of multiple factors driving economic change over time: trade globalization, financial market integration, labor market integration through migration, innovation and economic development, as well as their feedback effects on political outcomes (e.g. the rise of populism, international relations, etc.). Students should thus emerge from the course with a comprehensive knowledge of theories of international political economy and with an understanding of how political economies develop under ever-changing economic challenges (e.g. polycrisis in Europe, geo-economic fragmentation, the US-China confrontation, migration and climate issues).
