This course will mainly focus on contemporary Russia’s foreign policies around the world. For the first part of class students will review the Cold War engagement of the Soviet Union, but the majority of the class will examine post-Soviet Russia’s global foreign and securities in regions including Europe, East and South Asia, the greater Middle East (from the Eastern Mediterranean to Afghanistan), Africa, the United States, and the Arctic. Throughout students will also view these regional engagements through the prism of three schools of international relations theory: Constructivism, Liberalism, and Realism.
